This first gif idea came from the beginning of the novel when Mom first finds out about her cancer. Brian, the protagonist, describes how his mother was really confused about what was happening to her. She had heard everything the doctors had said about her condition but she still seemed a bit carefree and oblivious to what everything meant. Her sudden confusion was probably an effect from the tumor in her brain, but to Brian it seemed like she was just being stupid. The background of this gif is the definition of cancer and just overall different information on the disease. I have Mom falling through the words to show her drowning or being lost in her situation.
This second gif is more inspired by the general thing associated with cancer: hair loss. Through the different stages of Mom's chemotherapy she lost her hair and soon enough it was all gone. She also went through different emotions and state of minds which can be shown through her different facial expressions in the gif. There were more pictures I would have liked to show in this gif but in order for them to be seen clearly and not go by quick I was only able to use three.
This last gif was inspired by my favorite quote in the novel. Brian's wife says "When people face an emergency, they often become more of what they already are, like they get superpowers." The scene following this quote shows how Brian, Nurse sis, and Kid sis all become more of what they are, the oldest and "smartest" son, the medical genius, and the invisible struggling kid sis. They fight a lot about Mom and more often than not clash together on decision making. I made a gif to show these superhero figures clashing when fighting on choosing what's right.
